AIMS

We want to identify specific molecular alterations for tumor classification and prediction of treatment response.

Overview

Holger Moch has developed a robust translational research program to understand the molecular background of solid tumors with a special interest in urogenital tumors. Using different molecular technologies and availability of large biorepositories with tumor tissue samples,  his research group identified specific molecular alterations, which are important for better tumor diagnosis and improved understanding of tumor progression. As the histological classification of tumors has developed, the terminology used for designating subtypes has referred to characteristic histological features. Future classifications will be based more and more on specific molecular alterations. Holger Moch edited the 2016 World Health Organization Classification of Tumours of the Urinary System and Male Genital Organs “WHO blue book” and is now an editorial board standing member of the WHO Classification of Tumours (5th Edition). He is member of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences and and the German National Academy of Science Leopoldina.
